Blue Horizons for Autism

The Customer Service department has partnered with the Autism Tree Project Foundation (ATPF), TSA and JetBlue to create “Blue Horizons for Autism.” The program invites families with autistic children to have a “dry run” experience of the airport. This experience involves an interaction with airline staff at the ticket counter, a TSA screening, a walk through the terminal and eventually the boarding of an empty aircraft. The first event, held on October 26, involved more than 100 participants and was met with overwhelming support.

To help prepare families for the sights and sounds of an airport environment, a social map was created by two talented boys from ATPF – Joel Anderson and Vincent Ghio. The pair created “10 Steps to Happy Flying,” a video describing the program with encouragement through the process.
