10/31/2021  San Diego International Airport Celebrates Swoop’s First Flight to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Today, Canadian-based ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop, celebrated its first nonstop flight from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada via Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to San Diego International Airport (SAN). Swoop is a new airline operating at SAN and this route marks the only nonstop flight between the two cities. The flight will operate three times weekly during peak season on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

10/13/2021  British Airways Resumes Nonstop Flights to London from San Diego International Airport

Today, British Airways resumed their nonstop service between London, England, United Kingdom via Heathrow Airport (LHR) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). The resumption comes after British Airways was forced to suspend service in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline is the first carrier to resume nonstop service to Europe from San Diego.

On October 7, 2021, the San Diego County Regional Airport Board of Directors (Board) unanimously approved the maximum contract price and master project schedule for the design and construction of a new airport terminal to replace the existing Terminal 1 and related improvements.

9/30/2021  WestJet Resumes Nonstop Flights to Calgary from San Diego International Airport

On October 3, WestJet will resume service between Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Calgary Airport (YYC) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). The year-round nonstop flights operate two times weekly on Fridays and Sundays and increases to three times weekly adding a Monday flight beginning November 1. The resumption comes after WestJet suspended service in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

9/28/2021  San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Receives $25.9 Million in Federal Grants for Noise Mitigation Measures

The grants mark the largest annual amount given to SAN by the FAA for the Quieter Home Program
San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) will receive a total of $25,978,156 in two airport safety and infrastructure grants through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for noise mitigation measures. The $25.9 million in grants marks the largest annual amount given to the Airport Authority by the FAA for its Quieter Home Program (QHP) and one of the largest annual amounts given to any airport nationwide.
