It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since the first phase of the new Terminal 1 opened at San Diego International Airport.
Over the past year, one of our favorite things has been seeing travelers settle into the new space and make it their own. There’s more room to spread out, more places to sit, and a lot more space to move around. If you’ve been through Terminal 1 lately, you’ve probably noticed the difference.
We’ve also loved seeing travelers discover the food, drinks, shops, and other local touches throughout the terminal. San Diego has always been a big part of the SAN experience, and the new Terminal 1 gives travelers even more opportunities to enjoy local favorites before they take off. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, picking up a bite to eat, or looking for a San Diego souvenir, there’s plenty to explore.
But what we love most is seeing people excited about where they’re headed. Whether they’re taking a trip with loved ones, heading home to visit family and friends, or setting off somewhere new, every traveler has a reason for their journey. And we love being part of those moments as people make memories wherever they go.
And while we’re celebrating what’s here today, we’re already looking ahead to what’s next.
Phase 1B is now underway and will add 11 more gates to Terminal 1 when it’s completed in 2028. Travelers will also have new lounges, a children’s play area, and more places to grab a bite or do a little shopping. It’s another big step toward making Terminal 1 more comfortable, convenient, and ready for the millions of travelers who pass through SAN each year.
The new Terminal 1 was a big milestone for SAN, but it’s just one part of a much bigger transformation. We’re enjoying seeing travelers experience it today, and we’re looking forward to everything still to come.
