The holidays are a busy time at San Diego International Airport (SAN), as travelers head out to visit family, celebrate with friends, or enjoy a well-deserved getaway. Whether you’re departing for the holidays or welcoming loved ones to San Diego, a little preparation can make your airport experience smoother from curb to gate.
Here are a few tips to help you get your holiday travels off to a great start.
Know Your Terminal Before You Go
SAN has two terminals, and knowing where your airline operates before arriving can save valuable time. Check your terminal, flight status, and other travel details with your airline before heading to the airport. You can also find helpful information at san.org.
Give Yourself Extra Time
Holiday travel can mean heavier traffic, longer lines, and busier airport roadways. Plan ahead, allow extra time to get to the airport, and follow your airline’s recommended arrival guidelines. If you’re checking bags, remember to account for that time, too.
Make Getting Around Easy
If you need to travel between terminals, SAN’s Inter-Terminal Loop shuttle provides complimentary transportation between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Shuttle stops are located curbside at street level outside both terminals.
Know What You Can Bring
Before packing, review TSA’s guidelines for carry-on bags, liquids, and other items. Keep travel documents easily accessible, and consider checking in online and downloading your airline’s mobile app before arriving.
Plan Your Parking and Pickups
If you’re driving, explore SAN’s parking options ahead of time. If someone is picking you up, coordinate your arrival and use the Cell Phone Lot while waiting for your call. This helps keep airport roadways moving.
Enjoy the Airport Experience
Arrive with enough time to grab a bite, explore the shops, or discover SAN’s public art before boarding.
A little planning goes a long way. From all of us at SAN, we wish you safe travels and a happy holiday season!
