A new system for fueling aircraft is in place at San Diego International Airport. Called “hydrant fueling,” this system reduces aircraft turnaround times, increases on-time departures, reduces carbon emissions and minimizes fuel spillage, among other operational efficiency enhancements.
Hydrant fueling systems streamline the refueling process by delivering fuel directly from storage facilities to aircraft via underground pipelines. This reduces the number of fuel trucks needed on the airfield, which helps to lower carbon emissions.

Designed by Burns & McDonnell, this project supports Gates 48-51 and is the first phase of an airport-wide hydrant system conversion.
