Building Tomorrow’s Leaders: Introducing the SAN ASCEND Leaders Academy 

Strong organizations are built by strong leaders. At the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, we know that developing our people is essential to building a workforce ready to meet the future needs of San Diego International Airport. 

To support this commitment, the Airport Authority launched the SAN ASCEND Leaders Academy, an internal program designed to strengthen our leadership pipeline through structured, multi-level development experiences. 

SAN ASCEND provides employees with opportunities to grow their leadership skills at every stage of their careers, from emerging leaders to executive roles. The Academy creates a shared philosophy, common language, and consistent development that helps prepare employees to lead with purpose and support the Airport Authority’s strategic goals. 

By investing in talent from within, the SAN ASCEND Leaders Academy supports long-term succession planning while building a future-ready workforce that is:

The first program launched through the Academy is the SAN ASCEND Emerging Leaders Program, a two-year competency-based experience designed for employees who demonstrate leadership potential. 

Through structured learning, practical application, executive engagement, and cross-functional collaboration, participants develop the skills and experience needed to grow into future people leaders at the Airport Authority.
