For 98 years, San Diego International Airport (SAN) has been more than a place where people catch a flight. We’ve been a gateway to opportunity, a connection to the world, and a vital civic asset to the region’s economic growth.
As we mark 98 years of serving San Diego, it’s a great time to reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to what’s next.
From our early days serving a growing region to becoming a modern international airport, SAN has evolved alongside San Diego. Today, millions of travelers pass through our terminals each year, connecting our region to destinations across the country and around the world. Those connections help drive tourism, support local businesses, create jobs and strengthen our regional economy.
And we’re continuing to build for the future.
The new Terminal 1 marks one of the most significant milestones in SAN’s history. The transformational project is creating a more modern, spacious and sustainable travel experience while providing the infrastructure our growing region needs for decades to come.
But Terminal 1 is just one part of the journey. Phase 1B and the T2 East Connector project will continue to transform our airport, improving connectivity and the experience for travelers, employees and our community.
These projects represent more than new facilities. They are investments in San Diego’s future.
As we look toward our 100th year and beyond, SAN will continue to evolve with our region, strengthen connections and create opportunities that extend far beyond our terminals.
After 98 years of serving San Diego, there is a lot to celebrate. But perhaps the most exciting part is knowing there is still so much ahead.
Here’s to 98 years of serving San Diego, and to the future we’re building together.
