Your Guide to Biking to/from SAN

Yes, you can bike to San Diego International Airport (SAN)! All it takes is knowing where and how to properly stow your bike and a few safety tips to follow while on the airport campus. Here’s a quick guide for you:

WHO CAN BIKE TO THE AIRPORT?

Biking to SAN is perfect for day travelers who just have a backpack as their carry-on as well as airport employees and contractors who will be done with their work that same day. The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority encourages public transit, carpooling, and bicycling to get to the airport because it helps relieve congestion along our already busy roadways. SAN’s San Diego Flyer and Rental Car Center shuttles, as well as the MTS trolley and 992 bus, are all equipped with bike racks.

WHERE DO I PARK MY BIKE?

In 2011, SAN began installing bike lockers for public use on the airport campus. We currently have more than 100 bicycle parking spaces, including two stainless steel bicycle lockers provided by SANDAG. These lockers have a $25 refundable key deposit and can be used overnight. Each locker can accommodate up to four bicycles.

Here’s a map with their exact locations and the link to register and sign up with SANDAG.

If you prefer to use a personal bike lock, keep an eye out for our bike racks; they vary from red racks to stainless steel circles. Just remember to park your bike perpendicular (in between) and not parallel while using them. You’ll find them throughout Terminal 2, the USO Center, and SAN’s Rental Car Center.

ARE THERE BIKE LANES?

Arrive in record time with Harbor Drive’s bike lanes or take advantage of the beautiful scenery on the nearby low-stress Spanish Landing trail and walk your bike once you get to the airport campus.

Our New T1 will have a shared pedestrian and bike path along with additional parking spaces. Please remember that although we encourage micro-mobility, scooters and skateboards are not allowed at SAN. We hope you have a great trip to SAN on wheels
