WestJet Resumes Nonstop Flights to Calgary from San Diego International Airport

Thursday, September 30, 2021

On October 3, WestJet will resume service between Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Calgary Airport (YYC) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). The year-round nonstop flights operate two times weekly on Fridays and Sundays and increases to three times weekly adding a Monday flight beginning November 1. The resumption comes after WestJet suspended service in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The airport welcomes WestJet back to San Diego,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO. “Calgary is a major hub for WestJet, where San Diegans can continue on and connect to other cities throughout Canada including Winnipeg, Regina, and Saskatoon. We appreciate the resumption of service.”

WestJet began operations at SAN in June 2009, providing up to five flights a week to Calgary before the suspension. Now that the Canadian government opened the border on August 9, 2021, to fully vaccinated travelers, WestJet is the second airline to resume flights between Canada and SAN.

Subject to limited exceptions, all travelers must use ArriveCAN (app or web portal) to submit their travel information. If they are eligible to enter Canada and meet specific criteria, fully vaccinated travelers will not have to quarantine upon arrival in Canada. All travelers coming into Canada, regardless of vaccine status, will need a negative PCR or molecular test within 72 hours of requesting entry. SAN has an on-site COVID-19 testing option through Carbon Health for travelers wanting to get tested before a trip. Appointments are required and there is a fee for tests. For more information please visit, carbonhealth.com/covid-19-travel-clearance.
