SAN DIEGO – October 14, 2016 – On Friday, October 21, the public is invited to experience Fern Street Circus’ performance of its new show, The Hectic & The Still at San Diego International Airport. The performance is the culminating work of the group’s year-long Performing Arts Residency, and features a day-in-the-life at the mythical and eccentric Fern Street International Airport. The show will reflect what Fern Street artists have seen and experienced in airport life during the residency: travelers hurry, hurry, hurry (The Hectic), and then once at their gate destinations, have the opportunity for calm and relaxation (The Still).
Professional acrobats, clowns, jugglers, aerialists, musicians, and much more, will perform as part of the program. The show will also be interactive, with visual artists from San Diego Guild of Puppetry leading a pre-show workshop at 6:30 p.m. to help audience members create their own airplanes and airport goodies so they can participate in the Circus.

About San Diego International Airport’s Performing Arts Residency Program
The Arts Program at San Diego International Airport offers diverse and site-specific arts programming through its three program components: Public Art, Temporary Exhibitions, and Performing Arts. In 2016, the airport’s Arts Program launched the Performing Arts Residency Program as a platform for the development and performance of new work that simultaneously enriches the airport environment and cultivates the regional performing arts community. Fern Street Circus was selected as the first performance group to participate in the program.
About Fern Street Circus
Founded in 1990 and revived in 2014, Fern Street Circus has long been loved by San Diego communities for mixing adults, teens, and children – professionals and students – with circus arts.
Fern Street Circus is San Diego’s original single-ring, social circus, using circus acts to build community and teach performance and life skills to low income youth. Fern Street has performed in underserved neighborhoods from Calexico to Golden Hill, San Ysidro to Anaheim. Fern Street’s The Hectic & The Still show will perform in various San Diego neighborhood parks now through October 30 in addition to the airport performance.
