San Diego International Airport Operating Normally During Government Shutdown

San Diego International Airport (SAN) continues to operate normally, and essential federal aviation personnel (including air traffic controllers, FAA operations, and related support staff) are anticipated to remain on duty. We expect no disruption to airport-controlled functions such as parking, concessions, customer service, or public safety. However, please be aware that checkpoint wait times and flight scheduling remain subject to the operations of our federal and airline partners. In the event that travel volumes grow or federal staffing constraints intensify, delays may occur. To help ensure a smooth experience through the airport, please check your flight status before coming to the airport and allow extra time for TSA/security screening. SAN continues to coordinate with federal partners, and we are thankful for their service during this time. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates through our website and social media should conditions change.

Who Moved My Airline? Is it Terminal 1 or Terminal 2? East or West?

Bags are packed and you are headed out the door. Destination is San Diego International Airport. You know the airline you are flying on, but do you know which terminal?

With the new Terminal 1 opening and the old Terminal 1 closing permanently in September 2025, the which terminal question may give you pause. Here are few tips to help you navigate at SAN.

Tip #1, there are 17 airlines currently at SAN. Five are at Terminal 1 and 12 are at Terminal 2.

Tip #2, know your checkpoint. There are two checkpoints at Terminal 2 – West (checkpoint 6) and East (checkpoint 5). Terminal 1 has one checkpoint.

Tip #3, keep the following link accessible so in a pinch you can check your terminal: Airlines – SAN Airport

Terminal 1
Breeze
Frontier
JetBlue
Southwest
Sun Country

Terminal 2 East
Alaska Airlines
American Airlines
KLM
United Airlines
WestJet

Terminal 2 West
Air Canada
British Airways
Copa Airlines
Delta Air Lines
Hawaiian
Japan Airlines

Heading westbound to the airport, remember Tip #4: take the on-airport roadway.

This roadway will take you directly to Terminals 1 and 2. Watch for signs that list the terminal and the airlines.

Stay right for Terminal 1 and left for Terminal 2.
