Upcoming Construction Near SAN

If you’re heading to or from San Diego International Airport (SAN) in the coming weeks, you may encounter construction on nearby downtown streets. 

Construction is underway on Pacific Highway and is scheduled to begin on Grape Street as part of a broader effort to improve roadway access, traffic circulation and connectivity to and from the airport. The work supports the City of San Diego’s Downtown Mobility Plan and represents an important investment in transportation infrastructure serving SAN and neighboring communities. 

We know construction can be inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience while this work is underway. Travelers should plan for possible lane adjustments, temporary traffic controls and longer travel times near the project areas. 

Pacific Highway 

• Construction began Monday, Aug. 17, and is expected to last approximately two weeks. 

• Work is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

• A temporary lane shift is in place near Pacific Highway and Sassafras Street. 

• Additional work is planned along Pacific Highway between Palm Street and Washington Street, with some activity expected to begin later this month. 

Grape Street 

• Construction is scheduled to begin Sunday, Aug. 23, and is expected to last approximately four months. 

• Work is scheduled Sunday through Thursday, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

• Temporary traffic controls will be in place, with two lanes remaining open at all times. 

• Parking meters within the construction zone will be temporarily removed in coordination with the City of San Diego.
