TIP #1 – Picking Up at Terminal 1: Keep your Hello HAPPY!
The Arrivals curbside at Terminal 1 is no ordinary spot. It’s where families are reunited, friends meet long-lost friends and heroes return home, all within view of the bright pink jellyfish that welcomes all to SAN.
However, according to SAN’s Airport Traffic Officers, these happy moments are sometimes, well, not so happy, especially when drivers bunch up in the right lane as they approach Terminal 1. This creates a long line of stopped cars stretching out beyond the Terminal 1 Arrivals entrance. Our traffic officers offer two simple tips to help keep your pickup happy:
- Avoid the right lane of the Arrivals roadway as you approach the entrance to Terminal 1.
- Choose a pickup area towards the middle or west end of the Arrivals curbside.

TIP #2 – Goodbyes with Smiles – Time for a Switcheroo!
Have you been to the Arrivals curbside at Terminal 1 or 2? During peak busy curbside hours, it may be the place you want to be. By dropping off your loved one at the Arrivals curbside rather than heading to the busy Departures level at Terminals 1 & 2, you could avoid traffic congestion and find the space for a quieter moment to say your farewell, audios, au revoir, chao, or a simple goodbye.
