With the first 19-gate phase of the new Terminal 1 complete, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority has launched the next phase of construction, which will include 11 additional gates, new customer lounges, a children’s play area and more dining and shopping options.
The completion of Terminal 1’s Phase 1B in 2028 will mark an exciting milestone in the ongoing transformation of San Diego International Airport, bringing travelers a more seamless, comfortable, and connected experience than ever before.

Saying Goodbye to the Original Terminal 1
As part of this modernization, the original Terminal 1 has been permanently closed and is in the process of being demolished.
Traveling Between Terminals During Continued Construction
During construction, the roadway between Terminals 1 and 2 will be closed to all traffic. Your best bet for moving between the terminals is our Terminal Loop Shuttle, which operates daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.,
