San Diego International Airport’s Arts Program has launched a new on-call musician program, expanding the airport’s concert series with more frequent live performances in Terminal 1.
Award-winning harpists Chiara Capobianco and Tasha Smith Godinez, and solo guitarists Ru Ramo and David Maldonado, captivated passengers recently with a soothing repertoire — from classical and jazz to cinematic themes and global folk music.
Families traveling together, business travelers, children, and airport employees all enjoyed the ambiance; one passenger was even inspired to sketch and watercolor a portrait of guitarist Ru during their set.
Looking ahead, watch for pianist Petra Persolja to make her Terminal 1 debut on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Six vocalists are expected to start performing in January. The program will deliver 18 concerts during peak holiday travel times, with three regular weekly performances commencing early in the new year.
