Planning a trip to Japan just got a whole lot easier.
Beginning August 1, 2026, Japan Airlines (JAL) will increase its service between San Diego and Tokyo (Narita) from four weekly flights to daily. Whether you’re traveling for business, visiting family, exploring Japan’s rich culture, or continuing to destinations across Asia, you’ll now have more flexibility than ever before.
A Growing Connection Between San Diego and Asia
Travel between San Diego and Asia continues to climb. In fact, passenger traffic on San Diego–Asia routes increased more than 40% over the past two years, reflecting growing demand for international travel, business opportunities, and cultural exchange.
The expanded schedule is another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Japan Airlines and San Diego. JAL has proudly served the San Diego–Tokyo route since 2012, helping connect our region to one of the world’s most important international gateways.
That connection goes far beyond tourism. More than 30 Japanese companies have invested approximately $8.7 billion in San Diego County since the route began, supporting strong economic, business, and defense ties between our two regions.
Your Gateway to Asia
Tokyo’s Narita International Airport isn’t just your destination; it’s your gateway to the rest of Asia.
From Narita, travelers can conveniently connect to 13 destinations across Asia, making it easier to reach popular cities throughout the region on a single itinerary. Whether you’re planning one stop or several, JAL’s network opens the door to even more adventures.
As a member of the oneworld Alliance, Japan Airlines also offers seamless connections to destinations around the globe, along with reciprocal loyalty benefits through its 16 partner airlines.
More Flexibility for Every Traveler
Daily service means more options when planning your trip. Instead of working around a limited weekly schedule, travelers can choose departure dates that better fit their vacation, business travel, or personal plans.
Whether Japan has been on your travel wish list for years or you’re planning to explore even more of Asia, getting there from San Diego is now more convenient than ever.
Tickets for the new daily service are available now through Japan Airlines.
