The ZZYMZZY Quartet, established in San Diego in 2004, aims to recapture the unamplified, melodic, and swinging sounds of the Prohibition and Second World War eras, reminiscent of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. Their name, derived from a hypothetical “last word” in the dictionary, inspires their tagline, “The Last Word in Gypsy Swing.” Their sound is deeply influenced by French Gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt, making them a popular choice for dances, parties, and events across Southern California.
