SAN’s Zero Waste Initiatives Highlighted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency

Friday, September 4, 2020

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently completed a case study on the San Diego International Airport’s efforts to pursue “Zero Waste,” which is defined as 90 percent or more of waste being diverted from landfills through recycling, reuse, composting, and other means.

Both a detailed and short version of the case study are now available on the EPA’s website and include information on SAN’s goals, strategies, and achievements associated with the Airport’s Zero Waste Plan and programs.

SAN is the first airport to be featured on the EPA Region 9’s Zero Waste Case Studies webpage. After presenting at the 2020 Zero Waste Symposium, hosted by Zero Waste San Diego, the Airport was approached by EPA Region 9 to add content to their well-trafficked website.

SAN is honored to be one of the many local government case studies on their site. You can see more Zero Waste Case Studies by visiting the Zero Waste Local Governments Case Studies website.
