Changing with the Times

At San Diego International Airport, we pride ourselves on offering a diverse selection of local and nationally recognized concessions shops. The shops allow for travelers to grab a quick bite to eat, purchase that travel necessity that they accidentally left at home, purchase a souvenir for a loved one back home, or relax in between flights.

With COVID-19 now taking hold, our concession partners have made several improvements to their operations to ensure the health and safety of travelers. Many have introduced new safety standards, including Plexiglas shields at all points of sale, social distancing floor decals, masks are required on all airport property, and cashless/touchless pay options.

In addition to these operational improvements, many of our concessions partners now sell personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, and other personal hygiene items. Pre-packaged food or ordering food to-go is required throughout the airport due to San Diego County Health order however, travelers can enjoy the food in socially distanced food courts, right at their gate while waiting for their flight, or on the plane. In addition, passengers can purchase alcohol and take it to their hold room seat with them, there is no longer a requirement to consume the beverage within the restaurant space.

For travelers that belong to lounges, only Airspace Lounge is currently open to the public, United Club and Delta Sky Club remain closed. Airspace Lounge has also implemented health and safety modifications including social distancing measures, gloves and face coverings among staff, electrostatic cleaning, and frequent sanitation. Travelers are encouraged to drop by Airspace Lounge for pricing and information on specials they are offering.

Travelers might also notice a new automated vending machine, “Safe and Clean Travels” which offers a product selection for purchase including disinfecting wipes, reusable and disposable facial coverings, sanitizing gels, gloves, and other travel necessity items. SAN has machines located in the Terminal 1 baggage claim area, Terminal 2 East ticket lobby, Terminal 2 West baggage claim, and Terminal 2 West ticket lobby.

We appreciate our concessions partner’s forward-thinking when it comes to accommodating and creating a safe shopping experience for passengers. To view an up-to-date list of our concessions partners that are open, please visit san.org/gosafely.
