Rebecca Webb is a photographer, ceramicist, and curator based in Mid-City San Diego. Her work accentuates the beauty of the desert by using vibrant colors to create surreal, dreamlike landscapes that captivate the imagination. In her latest series, Uncanny Cacti, Webb turns her attention to the Joshua Tree and Saguaro cacti, anthropomorphizing her subjects by capturing their arms in ways that suggest human-like gestures. Webb photographs her subjects during the golden hour—the soft, warm light that appears just after sunrise or before sunset. She further intensifies this light by adding pigment to the reverse side of each print, creating a reflective glow that echoes the ephemeral beauty of the desert’s twilight. Webb’s installation is carefully arranged to echo the undulating, hidden valleys of the desert, immersing the viewer and encouraging reflection on nature’s intricate forms.
