Mônica Lóss was born in Soledade, Brazil, and earned her PhD in Arts and Education at the University of Barcelona, Spain before relocating to Carlsbad, California. Throughout her many relocations, Lóss uncovered forgotten clothing hidden in moving boxes, which she felt compelled to preserve. These textiles became a natural avenue of evolution for her art practice based on found objects. She began reworking fabric into a diverse range of two- and three-dimensional artworks. In Expanded Interior, her newly created series of six sculptures, each piece represents a fragment of a color gradient, gently transitioning into the colors of the next sculpture. As viewers move around the 360-degree works, their shifting perspectives reveal new dimensions, shadows, and vibrant interactions. When viewed in its entirety, the series evokes the way light refracts through a prism, guiding the audience on a migratory journey through the colors of the rainbow.
