Janet Hansen is an LED artist based in Encinitas, California with a background in art, bioengineering, and aerospace. After earning her PhD in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego, she combined her technical expertise and creativity to pioneer LED art. Through her wearable lighting company, Enlighted Designs, she has made designs for Broadway theater, musicians, sports teams, and theme parks. In Kaleidoscopic Comfort, Hansen has developed custom software for individually programmable LEDs, allowing her to animate geometric patterns and vibrant colors that respond dynamically to sound. As a custom soundtrack cycles through genres such as dance, pop, and jazz, the movement of the lights transforms in real time, creating a fluid and captivating experience. The installation also adapts to its surroundings. Audience members can influence the work by adding their own sounds, further immersing them in the kaleidoscopic fields of color and light that envelop the space.
