About the Artist
Description
Farshid Bazmandegan is an Iranian-American artist based in Los Angeles, California. He holds a MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a BA in Visual Art from the University of California, San Diego. His work, shaped by his experience as a migrant, explores themes of displacement, identity, and cultural intersection. Bazmandegan uses gold thermal blankets—materials symbolizing warmth and protection—and an oil barrel as the foundation for his abstract paintings. This unique materiality reflects California’s sun-drenched landscapes, capturing the allure and hope America represents for many, but also the challenge of navigating an unfamiliar environment. He transforms these objects into luminous geometric forms, such as a star inlaid on a pentagon, bridging sacred symbols from his Iranian heritage with his American identity. These shapes connect to ideas of infinity and rebirth, creating a poignant narrative of migration and identity formation.
