The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) welcomes four new members to the Board of Directors – County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez, Lidia Martinez, and Rafael Perez.

“Welcome Supervisor Fletcher, Mayor Sanchez, Ms. Martinez, and Mr. Perez to the Airport Authority Board,” said Airport Authority Board Chair Gil Cabrera. “These Board Members come to the Airport Authority at an exciting time. Their leadership and insight will be very helpful as we continue to build the New T1, which will meet the current and future transportation needs of our region. The Authority would like to acknowledge and thank outgoing Board Members California State Senator Catherine Blakespear, County of San Diego Board of Supervisors Chair Nora Vargas, Airport Authority Board Member Paul Robinson, and past Airport Authority Board Chair Johanna Schiavoni for their service and leadership during their tenure.”

“I look forward to working with Supervisor Fletcher, Mayor Sanchez, Ms. Martinez, and Mr. Perez in their new capacities,” said Airport Authority President & CEO Kimberly Becker. “With the development of the New T1, there are many things to be accomplished over the next several years.”

Supervisor Fletcher was appointed to the board on January 11, 2023, by Supervisor Vargas to fulfill her remaining term ending January 31, 2025. In November 2022, the mayors of the North County coastal cities appointed Mayor Sanchez to fill the remainder of Senator Blakespear’s Airport Authority board term until January 31, 2023. Mayor Sanchez was also appointed to a full term on the Airport Authority Board beginning February 1, 2023, and ending January 31, 2026. Ms. Martinez was appointed by the Mayor of San Diego to serve a three-year term effective February 1, 2023. She replaces past Airport Authority Board Chair Schiavoni. Mr. Perez was appointed by the Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to serve a three-year term effective February 1, 2023. Mr. Perez replaces Mr. Robinson.

The Airport Authority is governed by a nine-member Board, with three additional members serving ex officio. Board members serve three-year terms and may be reappointed.
