Top 3 Winter Escapes from San Diego

It’s that time of the year when much of the country wishes they could escape from winter. We Southern Californians, though, seek out the cold and snow on purpose. If you need a break from the endless summer, we’ve got flights to several of the country’s top winter destinations, including Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City, and Denver. All three locations boast stunning mountain ranges where you can sled, ski, or snowball to your heart’s content.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Pack your puffy jacket and winter boots (actually pack all of your clothing because you’re going to be cold) and fly off to a winter wonderland. There’s something for everyone in Jackson Hole, from world class skiing and boarding to hiking the Tetons. Don’t forget to have your picture taken under the iconic Elk Antler Arches in Jackson’s town square. Or your mask. It’ll keep your face warm. Both Delta Airlines and United Airlines offer convenient one-stop connections to Jackson Hole and starting December 17, 2020 you can fly nonstop from San Diego on Alaska Airlines

Salt Lake City, Utah
If you’re flying to SLC in the winter, you’re probably destined for Park City, and that’s a fine idea because it has 9,000 acres of “The Greatest Snow on Earth.” But SLC has The Greatest Views on Earth, with snowcapped mountains straight out of a storybook, visible from just about anywhere in the city. When you’re not skiing or riding, grab a cup of hot cocoa and take a stroll through the beautiful Liberty Park. Don’t forget mini marshmallows. Fly nonstop from SAN to SLC on Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines, or Southwest Airlines.

Denver, Colorado
Like SLC, Denver is the gateway to some of the best skiing in the country, with six resorts just an hour’s drive from Denver. If snow sports aren’t your cup of tea, maybe you want an actual cup of tea. Mosey over to the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder and sip the day away in the tranquility of a hidden gem. Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines all offer nonstop service to Denver from San Diego.

When you’re ready to venture out, make sure to wear a mask and follow local COVID-19 safety protocols. If you’re not quite ready to travel, now’s the perfect time to make plans for a future getaway or simply do some armchair ambling. Go on, give yourself something to look forward to.
