The SAN Arts Program at San Diego International Airport (SAN) incorporates three program components public art, temporary exhibitions, and the performing arts. SAN’s public art is a collection of permanent artwork that can be viewed in and around the airport campus while the temporary exhibitions and performing arts programing rotate to feature local, national, and international artists.

Recently the art that made up the Make Yourself at Home* temporary exhibition was taken down and now, SAN is ready to usher in a new temporary art exhibition centered around the theme, A Necessary Departure. The goal of this exhibition is to create a conversation that acknowledges the worldwide pandemic as a societal anomaly, while also highlighting the resulting ways that artists and creative thinkers have contributed to positive change that will continue to influence the future.

The SAN Arts Program invites artists, curators, and cultural, community, or educational organizations working in all media to submit proposals that use the concept of progression from the pandemic as a framework. Selected artwork and collections representing the theme will be displayed throughout the airport for up to one year beginning in October 2022.
