British Airways to Increase Flights to London from San Diego International Airport

Double-daily service begins in April 2024, with the additional flights available for sale starting today

Tuesday, September 19, 2023

British Airways announced today it will increase its nonstop service with a second daily flight between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) effective April 20, 2024.

Of the top 30 U.S.-Europe passenger markets, San Diego has had the strongest recovery from the pandemic.  The number of San Diego–Europe passengers is now 12 percent higher than in 2019. San Diego-London passengers have risen dramatically – now over 28 percent higher than 2019 levels.  The additional flights to London will begin to address the increased demand to and from our region.

British Airways has served SAN-LHR daily since June 2011 with one nonstop flight per day. The current flights (BA273 and BA272) will be retimed arriving in San Diego from London at 6:10 PM and departing San Diego for London at 8:00 PM.  The new second flight (BA265 and BA264) will arrive in San Diego at 3:25 PM and depart for London at 5:15 PM.  BA 264/BA265 will operate on 272-seat Boeing 777-200 aircraft and BA272/BA273 will operate on 214-seat Boeing 787-8 aircraft.  With the additional flight, summer 2024 seat inventory to London will increase 47% from summer 2023 levels.

“The expansion of British Airways flights between London Heathrow Airport and San Diego International Airport opens up a world of possibilities,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO. “Leisure and business travelers from San Diego will have added opportunities to explore London and beyond, while giving travelers from the rest of the world increased access to San Diego’s beautiful beaches and year-round sunny climate.”

London Heathrow, the second busiest airport in the world, serves as the main hub for British Airways as it services destinations in Europe, North America, Latin America & Caribbean, Middle East & Asia, Africa & Indian Ocean, the Far East & Australia.

“We are delighted to be launching a second daily flight from San Diego, further supporting the growth of business and leisure travel in the city and demonstrating our commitment to the region,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Alliances. “This new frequency will offer more options and convenience for our customers and is a welcome addition to our California schedule.”
