2/9/2023  We Diverted More than 800,000 Gallons of Stormwater from San Diego Bay in 2022!

In 2022, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority) captured, treated, and reused 812,500 gallons of stormwater. This water, which would otherwise have run off into San Diego Bay, was used to heat and cool buildings at San Diego International Airport, thereby reducing the amount of potable water used for this purpose.

1/30/2023  Alaska Airlines Add New Routes on the East and West Coast

Alaska Airlines is kicking the new year off with news of added routes from  San Diego International Airport (SAN). Today the airline announced it will offer daily nonstop flights between SAN and Washington, D.C. via Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and daily nonstop flights between SAN and Eugene, Ore. via Eugene Airport (EUG) starting June 15.

April through September is the least tern nesting season at SAN. Since 1970, this endangered migratory sea bird has found a suitable nesting site each year in the sand and gravel located in four oval areas between the runway and airplane taxiway.

The San Diego County Regional (Airport Authority) is participating in the 20th Annual Creek To Bay Cleanup! Join the airport and I Love a Clean San Diego on Saturday, April 23rd  as we come together to clean up our local environment. We’ll be at Spanish Landing from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. helping prevent litter and pollution from entering our waterways.

On Thursday, April 14, 2022, from midnight to 4 p.m., two lanes will be closed on Airport Terminal Road at the San Diego International Airport Terminal 1. Two lanes at Terminal 1 and one loading lane will remain open for traveler pick-up and drop-off throughout the construction activities timeframe.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) employs more than 7,000 people in the San Diego area. Some of those jobs include positions with the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (Airport Authority), which owns and operates SAN, but most of the jobs are through the airport’s concessionaire partners. Airport concessionaires make up the various food and beverage, gift and news, relaxation, and lounge options inside the airport.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) is in the middle of bustling downtown San Diego. So it’s no surprise that due to its location, many residential, office buildings, schools, and community use buildings are within a few miles of the airport. If you’ve ever walked around downtown or enjoyed the open shopping and amenities at Liberty Station, you know airplanes fly overhead quite often on the way to SAN. These moments often call for a pause in conversation until the noise has passed…we locals call it the “Point Loma Pause.”
