Time Interwoven is a metaphorical tapestry connecting global movement to the ancient craft of weaving. This sculptural piece represents lines of latitude and longitude as interlaced threads, symbolizing the paths people travel. A single red mark signifies San Diego’s place on the map and references an intentional flaw—a spiritual portal in some Indigenous weaving traditions.
At the airport, the flow of travelers resembles a living weave, echoing the choreography of intersecting paths. The horizontal threads (weft) evoke latitude, while the vertical threads (warp) align with longitude and represent 24 global time zones. Each colored section is lit by a 24-hour timer, with light moving horizontally like a weaver’s thread. City names engraved on the frame mark time passing across the world, as light signals the start of the workday in each zone. San Diego shines in this interplay of light, time, and place—as both a geographic anchor and a symbol of creativity.
