Travel days can be exciting—but they can also feel like a lot. At San Diego International Airport (SAN), we know that not every traveler’s needs are easy to spot. That’s why we’re excited to introduce SAN Assist, a new program created to make airport travel feel calmer, easier, and more comfortable for travelers with nonvisible disabilities—visible disabilities.
Whether you’re navigating autism, chronic illness, sensory sensitivities, or another condition that can make flying feel overwhelming, SAN Assist is here to help take the stress out of the journey—and put a little confidence back in.
What Is SAN Assist?
SAN Assist offers personalized support designed around you and your travel needs. Think of it as a friendly helping hand (or two) when you want it most.
Here’s how we can help:
Travel Guides
Need support on travel day? Our Travel Guides offer one-on-one assistance to help you move through the airport with greater ease. No rushing, no guessing, just calm guidance along the way.
Familiarization Tours
Want to test-drive the airport before your trip? Familiarization Tours let you explore SAN ahead of time, get comfortable with the sights and sounds, and practice navigating the terminal before travel day arrives. It’s a great way to reduce anxiety and feel more prepared.
A Little Planning Helps Us Help You
To make sure we can give you the best experience possible, here’s what to know before requesting services:
- All SAN Assist services are offered based on availability.
- Travel Guides should be requested at least three business days in advance and are available daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Familiarization Tours are designed for travelers with upcoming trips and should be requested two to three weeks in advance. Tours are offered Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
Support in Both Terminals
SAN Assist services are available in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, so wherever your journey begins, support is close by.
At SAN, accessibility isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we practice every day. SAN Assist is one more way we’re working to create a welcoming airport experience for everyone, because sometimes a little extra support can make a big difference.
