Stop Human
Trafficking

Human Trafficking Awareness

Millions of adults and children are trafficked annually for forced labor and commercial sex across U.S. transportation networks. As travelers, you play a vital role in identification and prevention, especially in airport environments.

With approximately 27.6 million victims globally and nearly 10,000 potential cases reported in the U.S. in 2023, your vigilance could help someone in need.

Take Action

If something seems suspicious, trust your instincts and report to airport staff or law enforcement. Your awareness helps make SAN and all airports safer for everyone.

What to Look For

Unusual Behavior

Someone who appears anxious, fearful, avoids eye contact, or seems overly controlled by a companion. Signs of abuse or neglect—like visible injuries or malnourishment—may also be present.

Unaccompanied Minors

A child traveling without a legitimate parent or guardian, or a group of girls accompanied by an unrelated older adult.

Lack of Travel Awareness

The person doesn’t know basic travel details—like their destination or flight—and relies entirely on someone else. Their story may also be inconsistent or unclear.

Inappropriate Clothing Items

Dressed unsuitably for the weather or location, and carrying little to no luggage or personal belongings.
