About the Authority

Shaping Air Travel for San Diego’s Future

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority was established in 2003 as an independent agency to manage San Diego International Airport (SAN) and plan for the region’s future air travel needs. Formerly called Lindbergh Field, the airport was renamed to reflect its international role in business and tourism.

The Airport Authority has three main responsibilities:

  • Operate San Diego International Airport
  • Plan for the region’s future air transportation needs
  • Oversee land use around all 16 county airports to protect public health and safety

A nine-member appointed board, along with three ex-officio members, governs the Authority and represents all areas of San Diego County.
