During the winter holiday season and other unique occasions and cultural observations, live theater, dance, literary arts and other special performances are presented Center Stage. All performances are from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

July 2, 2009 – Independence Day Celebration
The Matt Smith Jazz Ensemble
Nineteen year old trombonist and percussionist, Matt Smith started this 20-piece Big Band in 2005 alongside other young musicians. The group brings traditional swing and jazz standards from the ‘30s and ‘40s to life with an impressive demonstration of high energy filled with surprising improvisation.

August 18, 2009 – Rolling Luggage
by San Diego Dance Theater
Eight apparent travelers claim their luggage and begin to spin, swivel and “rock out” to the music in the air. Experience a unique performance by a modern dance theater troupe known for their unconventional and deeply courageous programming.

December 3, 2009 – Bonita Vista High School
Music Machine & Sound Unlimited
The Music Machine’s energetic and entertaining performances are consistently placed as one of the top ten co-ed high school show choirs in the nation. Sound Unlimited is a nationally ranked women’s show choir whose talents have brought home top awards from local, state and national competitions.

Holiday Performances
November 20, 2009 – December 23, 2009
Costumed performers stroll through the airport at various times during the winter holiday season. Be on the lookout for Raggle Taggle and other groups imparting a variety of traditional and non-traditional holiday productions.

This series presents performances by large musical ensembles and bands. Performances take place from 7:00 - 9:15 p.m. each second Friday of the month.

July 10, 2009 – Allison Adams Tucker (Quartet)
Allison Adams Tucker’s multi-linguistic vocals reflect her global travels and love of world cultures. This evocative presentation of sounds will take you on a journey through lands, both distant and close to home.

August 14, 2009 – Rob Thorson (Quartet)
Enjoy the musical talents of one of San Diego’s finest string bass players as he delivers a mixture of jazz standards along with today’s newest sounds.

September 11, 2009 – The Jazz 88 All Stars
This cast of local all stars is known for their vibrant musical camaraderie, bringing straight-ahead arrangements from some of the biggest names in modern jazz.

October 9, 2009 – Jason Weber (Quartet)
This gifted performer moves audiences with finesse, passion, intensity and versatility while performing virtually every style of music, including jazz, rock, funk, pop and R&B.

November 13, 2009 – Peter Pupping (Quartet)
The guitarist-lead quartet delivers an unforgettable repertoire of eclectic compositions spanning classical and world music to jazz and pop styles.

December 11, 2009 – Sacha Boutros
Boutros’ sultry vocals and golden-age Hollywood charm captivates audiences. She accentuates her four-octave vocal range with her ability to sing in any of the five languages she speaks fluently.

A more relaxed and intimate musical experience is presented at the Lounge by small groups. Performances take place from 7:00 - 9:15 p.m. each fourth Friday of the month.

July 24, 2009 – John Rekevics (Duo)
Rekevics is a musician’s musician often seen accompanying several local artists. This nationally recorded musician is a regular performer at local jazz clubs and performs both on sax and flute.

August 28, 2009 – The Benedetti Trio
The Benedetti Trio is comprised of guitarist Fred Benedetti and his two lovely vocalist daughters, Regina and Julia. The trio blends contemporary and original tunes as well as classic music of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

September 25, 2009 – Janet Hammer – “Take 2” (Duo)
Relax to a wonderful expression of spirit and music as vocalist Janet Hammer, joined by Nathan Fry on piano, presents a versatile array of great jazz standards. This duo is sure to impress.

October 23, 2009 – The Bill Shreeve Jazz Band
Bill Shreeve masters the suite of saxophones, flute & wind synthesizer, with his company of seasoned San Diego musicians to bring a funky Latin jazz sound. With hot vocals, more traditional sounds combined with original tunes, you will enjoy an evening filled with formidable power and diversity.

November 27, 2009 – Deejha Marie (Trio)
Style, class and talent are the three words that describe this vocal ensemble. Appealing to blues and jazz lovers alike, you are sure to hear many of your favorite jazz tunes played with great energy and pizzazz.
