Sophie will be a senior Politics major at the University of California, Santa Cruz in the fall. She is a campaign coordinator in the Student Environmental Center, which is a student-led and student-funded sustainability organization on campus. The campaign she runs, which is called Students for Organic Solutions, focuses on raising awareness of our food system and strives to implement sustainable food practices on campus. Her favorite course in college so far was a history class on the U.S. Civil Rights Movement because studying the Civil Rights Movement as a movement was extremely interesting and the professor was very enthusiastic about the subject. One of the things Sophie especially appreciates about UCSC is the beautiful redwoods that are all over campus.

Sophie is originally from San Diego, specifically the Point Loma/Ocean Beach area. Some of Sophie’s favorite traveling destinations include Australia, France, Ireland, Singapore, and all over California. She would love to travel to Brazil next summer to explore the country and be there for the FIFA World Cup. Some of her hobbies include yoga, ballet, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She is interested in organic gardening and sustainable food initiatives and hopes to pursue a career in Environmental Policy or Environmental Law. Sophie is considering law school after her undergraduate career at UCSC.
