Rachel
was raised in the small town of Silverton, Oregon. Wanting to escape the
frequent downpours of the Northwest, she headed to San Diego to attend college at
Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU). After realizing that the sun does still exist
outside of the summer months, she grew to love San Diego and hopes to stay in the
area. She graduated with a degree in Managerial and Organizational Communication
in three years, spending the second two as a Resident Assistant in the freshman
dorm. Knowing that she wants to be involved in some aspect of aviation, she was
thrilled to begin her summer internship at the Airport Authority only 11 days after
graduation! She feels very fortunate to be learning so much about the different
pieces of an airport, while being included in the day-to-day operations of SDIA.
In addition to gaining a holistic view of what goes on to make an international
airport successful, Rachel has been practicing self-control by not always partaking
in every opportunity for free food.
Rachel is beyond grateful for the time she is spending in the Public, Community, and Customer Relations Department. Her favorite thing to do at work is to be in the terminals with her upbeat, outgoing coworkers. She is using the information she gains from them to help many passengers as they go through their exciting adventures of traveling. Though she does not know what life brings post-internship, Rachel is confident that the skills and knowledge she is gaining this summer will open up the doors to many more exciting opportunities and experiences!
