Amanda was born and raised in San Diego, California. She began her college career at Grossmont Community College and transferred to the University of San Diego, where she graduated in May 2013 with a BA in Environmental Studies. Growing up in San Diego, she established a strong love for the ocean and all of the livings things within it. She carried that love over to her major where she focused a large portion of her research on coral reefs and how they are impacted by increasing sea surface temperatures. Her future career goals include environmental consulting or getting involved with sustainable urban planning. Keeping a balance between sustainability and a healthy environment, while still encouraging growth and development is a goal that she hopes to achieve not only for herself, but for current and future generations as well. Through this internship with the Environmental Affairs Department, Amanda hopes to learn how environmental issues such as water quality, air quality and wildlife management are handled by the Airport Authority.

In her spare time, she enjoys going to the beach and staying active. She was a cheerleader for eight years and running has become a new found passion of hers. She recently completed her first half marathon in January during the Carlsbad Half Marathon. She loves spending time with her fiancé and their Dalmatian, Queen. Amanda also enjoys planning her wedding, which will take place spring 2014. She has a serious sweet tooth and will eat ice cream any chance she gets! She is very grateful to have the opportunity to be an intern at the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority and looks forward to using this opportunity as a foundation for her career.
