Why San Diego International Airport cannot meet the region's future needs
Cannot rely on other Southern California airports

Given the challenges of increasing airport capacity in San Diego County, some people suggest developing high-speed transportation to other Southern California airports (Los Angeles International, Orange County John Wayne, Burbank, Long Beach Municipal and Ontario International). However, those other airports do not have the long-term capacity to meet San Diego's increased demand. All will reach or already have reached their maximum capacity by the time Lindbergh Field reaches its capacity.

Southern California airport data provided by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), from "Vision 2030," the 2004 Regional Transportation Plan, http://www.scag.ca.gov. Passenger numbers are expressed in Millions of Annual Passengers (MAP). 2030 travel times are from San Diego County's population center using SANDAG data and MS MapPoint.
