Cultural Exhibits
The Cultural Exhibits Program at San Diego International Airport offers travelers a variety of stimulating exhibits that embrace aspects of San Diego’s cultural history and cultural diversity. If you have any time to spare during your travels, consider taking a moment to enjoy the following exhibits.
Three new exhibits have been installed in the terminals:
-
Taylor Guitars
The El Cajon, California, based Taylor Guitars exhibit at the San Diego International Airport provides an overview of the company’s history, including its contributions to San Diego music and industrial arts educational programs. Several Taylor guitars are on exhibit, including models from Taylor’s flagship acoustic line, and the new Taylor Solid Body electric (due for release in January 2008). On Display in the Commuter Terminal through January 30.
-
Recycle/Reclaim/Re-Use
SalvationSacks uses recycled materials, jewelry and other objects to create one-of-a kind handbags. This organization blends a sense of social consciousness with things from the past by recycling discarded objects and reconstructing them into original creations. A collaborative process is completed entirely in San Diego, California. The environmental goals of SalvationSacks center upon re-using many of our society’s disposable and discarded textile and metal products. Sustainability is a major focus encouraging consumers to lessen the draw on our country's natural resources for new materials. Rather than focus on the mass production of 1 bag, SalvationSacks makes ownership special and exclusive because no two bags are exactly the same. Each is an original work of art. Display in Terminal Two East through January 30.
-
San Diego’s Sister City: Yokohama
The concept of sister cities came from President Eisenhower in 1957 with the idea that peace throughout the world could be achieved through people-to-people relationships. While on paper, sister city relations seem to be a political agreement between mayors, San Diego and Yokohama’s relationship impacts the most personal to formal to military relations. Like true sisters, Yokohama and San Diego shared many gifts and toys, especially dolls. This exhibits highlights the cultural exchange between the two cities. Display in Terminal Two West across from gate 33 through January 30.
