Airport Land Use Compatibility
The legislation creating the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority specified that, in addition to its other roles, it would serve as the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) for San Diego County. This legislation further mandated that in its ALUC capacity, the Airport Authority must create or update all Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans (ALUCPs) for the region's 16 public-use and military airports in accordance with applicable law, namely the California Airport Land Use Planning Handbook.
- ALUC laws and the ALUCP process have been in place since 1967.
- The deadline for adoption of these plans was initially June 30, 2005, but has since been extended.
- Once ALUCPs are adopted, ALUCs are responsible for reviewing proposed development projects and airport plans for consistency with those ALUCPs.
